Alberta's Mid-July Freeze
Southern Alberta is bracing for a sharp drop in temperature, soaking rain, and even mid-July snow in the mountains.
After weekend highs near 24C (76F) in Calgary, thermometers will tank Monday.
Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning, with 50–80 mm (2–3 inches) expected by Tuesday.
Freezing levels will fall to around 2,300 meters (7,500 feet), bringing summer snow to higher elevations, including Jasper National Park. Slick roads, flooding, and poor visibility are expected. Hikers and travelers heading into the mountains have been warned.

Siberia's Summer Shock
The Siberian town of Markovo, Chukotka recently plunged to –2.1C (28.2F) on July 10, 2025—nearing its all-time July record low. Average lows for this time of year sit at 10C (50F).
The temperature drop followed a deep Arctic trough and a kinked jet stream that dragged polar air into northeastern Siberia.
