This cool down will be accompanied by yet more snow, with latest GFS runs seeing accumulations widely surpass a meter (3.3 feet) on the peaks, particularly in Scandinavia and the Alps, adding to the 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) that buried the likes of Austria last week.
South Africa Update
A quick update on South Africa's incoming polar blast... The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government says that dedicated teams are on standby due to another fierce drop in temperatures forecast for the weekend, into early next week.
"The focus is on the N3 between Harrismith, Tugela Toll, R617 between Kokstad and Underberg, N2 Ingeli and N3 Mooi River, and others," authorities have said.
The provincial government has also deployed engineers to assess the impact of last week's record-breaking snowfall on the nation's infrastructure.
