It's Snowing In Mallorca
Rare snow is hitting Mallorca this week, Spain’s largest Balearic Island in the Mediterranean, with more in the forecast.
Snow in the Tramuntana Mountains has blocked off villages, including Valldemossa and Soller. Flakes have even been reported sea level on the beaches in Cala d'Or, bringing disruptions to the island.

Aemet issued an incredibly rare 'red' alert for Mallorca on Feb 27, 2023, with heavy snow—as much as 50 cm (1.64 ft), and freezing lows below -2C (28.4F)—hitting the Tramuntana Mountains, with the snow line falling to a historic 100 m (328 ft).

The most notable snows of the past occurred in 1956 and 2012, with the former seeing heavy falls persist for weeks.
During 1956, now known as 'the year of snow', Mallorca's holy city of Lluc was isolated for fifteen days. All of the island's municipalities were blanketed white, with Mallorca snowed in for a total of 17 days, from the February 3rd to the 20th.
The scenes recalled the tellings of the historical record books, which reveal that between the 16th and 18th centuries the island of Mallorca was in the grips of a Little Ice Age.
