The COLD TIMES are returning...
Record June Cold In Siberia
Segyan-Kyuyol, a remote village in Russia’s Sakha Republic, just logged a brutal -5.2C (22.6F) on June 21—the coldest June temperature in its recorded history (books dating back to 1938).
Segyan-Kyuyol isn’t new to winter extremes, but such cold in late June is unheard of.
Snow settled and all, almost 3 inches of it.
As per the cause: the Siberian High likely played a role, but the exact atmospheric setup remains under analysis. But regardless of the culprit, these biting lows threatens already fragile ecosystems and seriously stunt the region's short-season crops.
Freeze In Ontario and Sask
Moosonee, Ontario recently registered -5C (23F), a reading approaching its record June low and one some 15C below average.
