Record July Cold in Yakutia and Beyond

Anomalous cold is gripping much of Russia. Cold records are falling. Crops are under stress.

Recently, Sebyan-Kyuyol in Yakutia shivered through -3.2C (26F) — the coldest July temperature ever recorded at the site. Yakutia is known for wild temperature extremes, but July usually brings mild weather, with average lows far above freezing.

And it’s not isolated.
