July Snow Hits Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
For the second time in three years, July snow has buried Babusar Top, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
The high-altitude pass, usually clear in summer, saw fresh accumulation mid-week as temperatures plunged below freezing.
Exact depths haven’t been confirmed, but scenes mirror July 2023, when around 8 cm (3 inches) of snow closed the road.
July snowfall in these parts is considered very rare—or it used to be; two events in three years may suggest that’s changing.
